Sakura is of course the famous cherry tree that blossoms in springtime with pale pink flowers. The saya and handle of these knives are wrapped in a fine layer of cherry bark that is dried for three years and skillfully applied. This is a very traditional artform in Japan only known to a small handful of artisans.
